Hundreds of guests gathered at the Hyatt Regency May 10 to support the 15th Annual Summit Foundation for Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Gala. That ’70s Gala, as the fab fete was billed, featured gourmet buffet-style food stations; complimentary wine courtesy Santa Rita 120; the hugely popular Sobeys Candy Buffet; a ’70s themed photo booth; dancing to DJ Flo; terrific live and silent auction items; games; guest gifts; and powerful addresses from keynote speakers Marten DevLieger — a 37-year-old living with CF, and Dr. Paul Kubes, director of the Snyder Institute for Chronic Disease.

DevLieger gave guests a glimpse into his life as a dad and husband. In 2017, he invented a wireless chest therapy vest being widely used throughout North America for CF patients to help them loosen the mucous that clogs their airways. Kubes outlined the steps being taken to ensure the Snyder Institute is the best place for research in lung disease in the world.

Perhaps the most memorable moment of the evening was event chair and gala founder Nicki Perkins’ stunning address in which she shared clips from her documentary, Fighting for Breath, available on YouTube. Her remarks and video clips brought the room to tears. Perkins’ spunk and sparkle belie the fact that CF is slowly destroying her lungs. Undaunted, she calls herself a CF warrior. Apt indeed.

Guests, donors and sponsors helped raise more than $289,000 this night with funds being directed to the Nicole Perkins Microbial Communities Core Labs at the Snyder Institute for Chronic Disease within the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary. That longtime donors Lenny and Phyllis Shapiro announced a further commitment of $250,000 to the lab ensured the evening will long be remembered.

Others among the more than 300 guests in attendance included: foundation directors Dr. Nancy Brager, Tanya Yeast, Rhea Solis, Colleen Zeller, Dr. Harvey Rabin and Domenic Mandato; Neil Zeller of Neil Zeller Photography; Canadian View’s Stephen Fuchs; Rayacom Printing’s Bernado Perez; Sobeys Jim Johnston; Astra Zeneca’s Joanna Wall; WestJet’s Michelle Caldwell; and others pictured.

TL;DR: The 4K-ready GoPro Hero 7 Black is on sale for $329, saving you $70.99.

We’d all love to say we live in the moment and don’t have to document everything, but let’s be real — not being able to Instagram your vacation is like having your oxygen supply cut off.

GoPros are the ultimate way to make those memories without getting your phone out, and the new GoPro Hero 7 Black is only $329 at Amazon.

Like a home security camera keeps tabs your home without you having to be there, a GoPro documents whatever you’re doing without using your hands. Just released in fall 2018, the Hero 7’s biggest glow up is the video stabilization — it’s flawless. Footage can get shaky when you’re recording while walking (let alone doing an actual activity), but the Hero 7’s “HyperSmooth” technology gives you gimbal-like stabilization without having to buy a gimbal. Oh yeah, and it’s all 4K.

The hands-free voice commands work just like Alexa to ensure that you never miss the perfect action shot. Because it’s waterproof, outdoor adventures like surfing, kayaking, and snorkeling are a go.

“GoPro, take a photo.”

But hands-free usage isn’t the only thing it’s good for. The Hero 7 is one of the best cameras for vlogging, live streaming, and time-lapse videos. It can even record vertical videos natively, and all you have to do is turn the camera 90 degrees.

Mashable’s Ray Wong writes:

“This time around, I think Hero 7 Black really distinguishes itself from a smartphone camera. The stabilization, while still a little lacking for low-light recording, is stupendous. Compared to shaky and difficult-to-watch footage shot with an older GoPro or smartphone camera, the Hero 7 Black’s stabilized video is actually enjoyable. I want to go out and shoot a short film with all kinds of epic pan and sweep shots just because I know I don’t need to use a gimbal or invest in a crane.”

Regularly $399.99, you can save $70.99 and get it for $329.
